David, a certified public accountant, graduated from the University of Hawaii in 1978 with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting. Upon graduation, he joined the audit department of Ohata & Company. As a supervising auditor, David was responsible for the planning, coordinating and supervising audit, review and compilation engagements in accordance with standards of profession. In March 1985, he left Ohata & Company to start his own practice. In June 1986, he formed the firm of Chinaka & Siu.
On December 1, 1989, the firm was incorporated and named Chinaka, Siu & Co., CPAs, An Accountancy Corporation. After the retirement of Carlton Siu, David partnered with Carl Muraoka, and on July 1, 2008 the firm became Chinaka & Co., CPAs LLP. On July 1, 2010, the partnership became a corporation and the company was re-named Chinaka & Co., CPAs, Inc.
The company separated into two new independent CPA firms on April 16, 2014.
As a trusted accountant and auditor, David's experience also include the areas of operational auditing, litigation support services and special purpose reporting. He has worked with clients in retail and wholesale, manufacturing, food brokers, health, auto dealerships, construction, state and municipal governments, real estate, travel agencies, education, eleemosynary, non-profit organizations, condominiums and professional services.
In addition to providing management advisory services, he is involved with the tax planning and preparation of tax returns for nonprofit organizations, corporations, partnerships, trusts and individuals.
In the area of professional organizations, David is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Hawaii Society of Certified Public Accountants, National Association of Public Accountants, and Hawaii Association of Public Accountants.
